Pakistan is ranked 5th among high burden countries worldwide and accounts for 61% of the TB burden in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region. Yearly, an estimated 510 000 new TB cases are reported and approximately 15000 developing drug resistant TB3. The TB poses a huge financial burden on the patients, families and societies resulting in poor compliance to medications, resulting in worsening health, potential spread of the disease, and/or death. The Solution Pakistan has submitted a grant to WHO EMRO to study the economic impact of TB on the families in Pakistan. Prof Dr Azra Khanum, Ex Dean Biological Sciences, PMAS- Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi is the Principal Investigator.
